July 13, 1922 - November 22, 2014
Rose (Dostal) Piitz was born July 13, 1922, to Edward and Rosy(Kovar) Dostal at the family farm house west of Abie, Nebraska, and passed away peacefully to eternal life on November 22, 2014 at the Butler County Health Care Center. Rose's brother Ed always told the story on her birthday that the day she was born, it was very hot and the men were out threshing oats and when they came home in the evening, they had a baby sister. Rose attended District 39 and graduated from the 8th grade. She would walk to school with her brothers or her cousins, Tillie and Anna. In the winter their fathers would take turns driving the girls to school with the horses and sleigh. Rose was a talented artist and enjoyed working on embroidery, applique and making feather quilts with her mother. Rose's special interest was designing crepe paper flowers arrangements. She enjoyed working alongside her mother in the garden, canning, and raising poultry. Rose met the love of her life Leonard J. Piitz at a dance and they danced through life together for 66 years. Rose and Leonard were married June 24, 1947 at Assumption Catholic Church in Appleton. They raised two children, Kathy and Leon. They lived on the farm east of Brainard their entire married life, and Rose continued to live on the farm following Leonard's death in 2013. She was a devoted wife and mother, caring for her family was her special vocation. Rose continued to enjoy baking, gardening, canning, flowers, raising poultry and her special kittys until her last days. The summer of 2014 she had beautiful flowers gardens and a vegetable garden, and canned pickles for the coming winter. She was an excellent baker and her kolaches and rolls were special treats and houska was always enjoyed on Christmas Eve. Being married to a musician, Rose washed and ironed thousands of white shirts over the years for Leonard's polka dances. She enjoyed going on bus tours and shopping outings with the ladies. She always kept a diary of events, weather, sunset times, ect. She liked to work on photo albums and had a large collection of family pictures. Rose was baptized and made her First Communion at Assumption Catholic Church in Appleton, and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard for many years. Her faith was very important to her and she had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother, always making a May Altar in her honor with beautiful lilacs and tulips. Left to treasure her memory are daughter: Kathy (Morris) Peters, of Henderson; son: Leon (Nancy) Piitz, of Brainard; grandchildren: Jeffery Piitz, Lindsey (Josh) Fehlhafer, Chelsea (Alex) Tietjen; great-granddaughter: Shelby Fehlhafer; sister-in-law: Evelyn Dostal, and nieces and nephews.
