Marie J. DeWispelare, 94, of David City, died Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, David City with Fr. Bernard Kimminau officiating. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Mary Cemetery, rural Bellwood. Viewing will be on Wednesday, from 1-5pm at Chermok Funeral Home and after 6:30pm at St. Mary's Church, followed by a 7pm wake service and PCCW Rosary. Refreshments and social time will follow the evening rosary at St. Mary's school. Catholic Daughters of America will recite a rosary on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00pm at the funeral home. Additional viewing will be on Thursday, from 9-10am at the church. Memorials may be given in care of the family. Marie DeWispelare was born on June 9, 1915 on the farm in the Luxemborg area to Henry and Margaret(Puetz)Birkel. She attended grade school and graduated from Marietta School High School. She married Emil F. DeWispelare on September 8, 1943 at Presentation Church. Three children were born to this union. Marie was a life long Butler County resident. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, David City, the Catholic Daughters of America, and PCCW. She was very devoted to her faith and active in her church. She was a homemaker and managed the farm after her husbands death until she moved to David City. Her life centered around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook, bake, and do canning. She was also a 45 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary of David City. Marie is survived by her children: Eva(Robert)Kadavy of Fremont, NE: Dan(Kathy)DeWispelare of Denver, CO; Ed DeWispelare and fiance Kim Yates of Omaha, and step-son: Jerry(Wilma)DeWispelare of Octavia. Two sisters: Rose Housh of Omaha and Ida Burbach of Witchita, KS. 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Emil in 1961, three brothers: Rev. Harold Birkel, Matt Birkel and Clarence Birkel; three sisters: Anne Birkel; Florence Stump, and Clair Bongers.
